The Five Filters Found in Most Automobiles

The reason why the title to this blog post says “most automobiles” is that some automobiles do not have a cabin filter or a transmission filter. You can check your owner’s manual to determine the filters that need to be changed in your car, truck, or utility vehicle. Then, bring your automobile to C&C Automotive so we can change the filters when they need it.

Air

Your automobile definitely has an air filter in the engine. This filter needs to be changed annually. If you put 12,000 miles on the odometer before the year is up, have the filter changed at that point. You need a clean air filter in the engine to purify the air before it is burned in the combustion chamber. A dirty air filter can inhibit airflow into the chamber and affect your engine’s performance.

Cabin

If your car, truck, or SUV has a cabin filter, it will most likely be located behind the glove box. This filter needs to be changed every 30,000 miles at a maximum. Some recommendations are that you change the cabin filter every 6,000 miles. It depends on the filter type that is installed in your automobile. Your owner’s manual will give you the recommended changing schedule for the cabin filter in your car.

Fuel

The fuel filter needs to be changed every two years or every 30,000 miles. You want to have the filter changed at the milestone that comes first. You need a clean fuel filter to remove the sediment from the fuel before it is burned in the combustion chamber. If the fuel filter gets too dirty, it will create problems with your engine’s performance. In fact, you may not be able to start your automobile.

Oil

The oil filter is something you do not need to worry about provided you get oil changes when your vehicle needs them. The reason why you don’t need to worry about it is that the oil filter is automatically changed when the oil is changed. This ensures you always have clean oil and a clean oil filter in your engine, which is crucial to its protection and performance.

Transmission

Finally, the transmission filter isn’t found in every automobile. If your vehicle has one, you want to make sure it is changed when you get the transmission fluid changed, which should be every 30,000 miles.
