Don’t Forget Your Tires When it Comes to Servicing Your Automobile

Your vehicle’s tires are more important than you might realize. They help you control your automobile and keep you safe during wet weather. It’s important to maintain your tires as well as you maintain the rest of your car. C&C Automotive lists important tire and wheel services below, when they generally need to be done, and what makes them crucial to the overall health of your vehicle’s tires.

Tire Inspections

It’s a good idea to inspect your tires once a month. Park your automobile in good light and take a look at the tire tread on all four tires. Measure it to make sure you have enough tread depth left. Look for uneven tread wear, such as patches and scallops. Check the sides of the tires to make sure that they are not bubbling or cracking. Check the air pressure in each tire to make sure that you have enough. If the air pressure is low, fill the tires only to the recommended psi.

Tire Rotations

Have your tires rotated every 5,000 to 6,000 miles. This ensures that your tire tread will wear down evenly and you will get more life out of your tires. Failing to rotate places undue pressure on the same points on each tire and causes uneven tread wear. Rotating the tires regularly changes the pressure points on each tire and, again, prevents uneven tread wear.

Wheel Balance

It’s also important to have your wheels balanced when they need it. A sign that your wheels are out of balance is vibration that becomes more severe as you pick up speed. Balancing the wheels basically means that the wheel weight is distributed evenly across your vehicle’s axles. It’s important to always ensure that this weight is distributed evenly to avoid undue stress on the axles and uneven tire tread wear.

Wheel Alignment

Finally, you should have your wheels aligned every one to two years to ensure that they are always straight. Wheel alignment makes sure that the wheels are pointed straight from side to side and from top to bottom. This makes certain that all of the tread touches the road. This ensures that the tires wear down evenly and that you have better control of your automobile.
